Have You Maximized Your EarningsBy John Seraichyk
One thing that everybody in my profession seems to agree on is that job-hunting for a six-figure position is no walk in the park!
According to the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics, less than 3% of the American workforce earns in excess of $100,000 annually. Does one then conclude that less than 3% of all available positions in the US pay in excess of $100,000? According to this expert, 3% is an extremely modest figure.
Could it be that after four or five months of job searching, one soon becomes frustrated and ultimately ends up settling for a lower salary? Could it be that 98% of the professional job seekers use traditional means such as the Internet or help wanted print media to locate possible job openings? Another statistic from the Bureau of Labor states that only 20-25% of all jobs are advertised. One may conclude that if 98% of the people are competing for 25% of the jobs, this certainly gives the employer sufficient leverage to hire somebody at a lesser salary. If we Americans truly knew how to package, position and promote ourselves on the open job market, would that force employers to pay us more? I strongly believe so!
Imagine if you were to implement a planned search targeted at employers of interest rather than focusing all your efforts on those who have a job for you today. When done properly, this enables you to remain steadfast and proactive in your search endeavor. When seeking a six-figure position, it is crucial that you implement proactive non-traditional search tactics that will maximize your exposure with the right companies.
Searching the Internet or other published media will yield little more than frustration or at best, job interviews for positions that you are not interested in.
